The hallowed halls of Canadian sailing history are set to welcome a truly remarkable Class of 2026, a dozen individuals whose indelible contributions have shaped the sport from the Olympic podium to the far reaches of the globe. This latest induction, bringing the total to 69 luminaries, underscores the rich tapestry of Canadian maritime achievement.
Leading the charge are a trio of Paralympic titans: Paul Tingley, Logan Campbell, and Scott Lutes. Their relentless pursuit of excellence, often against formidable odds, embodies the very spirit of competitive sailing. Joining them are Olympic stalwarts Larry Lemieux, whose sportsmanship at the 1988 Seoul Games remains legendary, and Hank Lammens, an Olympian and Finn Gold Cup World Champion whose mastery of the demanding single-handed dinghy was a testament to raw talent and meticulous preparation.
Beyond the racecourse, the artistry of yachting photographer Sharon Green will finally be recognized. Her iconic lens has captured the drama, speed, and sheer beauty of sailing for decades, providing an invaluable visual chronicle of the sport's evolution, from the early days of wing sails to the current era of foiling AC75s. Her work is as much a part of sailing's visual lexicon as any Harken winch or Southern Spars mast.
Posthumous inductions further enrich the class, honoring figures whose legacies continue to resonate. Casey Baldwin, Mark Ellis, Christopher Pratt, William Roue, Joshua Slocum – the first man to circumnavigate the globe solo – and Angus Walters, captain of the iconic Bluenose, represent the foundational pillars of Canadian sailing, from design innovation to seafaring courage. This class is a potent reminder that the pursuit of speed, the mastery of the elements, and the sheer joy of sailing transcend generations and disciplines.
